Why am I receiving a 403 error?

This article provides solutions for 403 errors that may occur when uploading files or changing profile photos. The error can be caused by metadata attached to files that the system blocks for security reasons.

In some instances, a 403 error may be caused by a bad file being uploaded into the system. Bad doesn't necessarily mean dangerous, but there could be metadata attached to the file that our system is choosing to block for safety and security reasons. If you receive this error when you are attempting to upload a file or change your profile photo, this may be the culprit. There are a few steps you can take in an attempt to solve the issue.

Solution #1 (For Most Images)

This solution is the easiest, but works primarily for image files. Before you begin, we recommend clearing your cache.
1. Open the file on your desktop.
2. Take a screenshot of the image. If you are a Windows user, press the Windows key + Print Screen key at the same time. For Mac users, use Command + Shift + 3.
3. Crop the image.
4. Re-upload the image

Solution #2 (All Files)

1. Open the file on your desktop.
2. Use your file opening tool to Export or Save As.
3. Rename the file.
4. Re-upload the NEW renamed file.

Solution #3 (For Most Images)

1. Utilize a photo-editing software like Canva and open up a new blank canvas.
2. Upload your photo.
3. Add your photo to the canvas and stretch it to your desired size.
4. Export the file (if image, use PDF or JPG).
5. Re-upload the file.
